We went behind to the campground to the beautiful wetlands that we'd seen filled with feeding shore birds (including a flock of white pelicans fishing in unison) 6 weeks ago.

Too late.

The heavy equipment had bulldozed a channel last night so as to begin draining the wetlands. Next year visitors will find more tourist villas and condos here instead of birds. Lucky them.

Cast quite a pall over our day.
