Next door to the Athabasca Glacier this one (Dome Glacier) also runs from the Columbia Icefield.

The icecap (icefield) is slowly thinning. In places it is 100 metres thick. 800 million years ago, the Rockies were under water. Relatively recent (150 million years) crustal uplifts followed by glaciation has created the current landscape.
