Haines (seen here) is an interesting little town at the head of the Lynn Canal. Skagway, a historic Gold Rush site, lies 15 miles away on the other side of the Chilkoot Inlet. These two communities are the only places in southeast Alaska you can get to by road. In both cases you have to go through westernmost Canada. The road distance between the two towns is a mere 400 miles.
