We found leads to some of the best (according to our likes and dislikes) campgrounds came from people we met along the way. Accordingly, for our readers we rate the ones we go to with links to photographs of our campsites. Campgrounds are grouped by state/province.
For type of campground, (1) is national land, (2) is state land, (3) is other public (municipal, county) campground, and (4) is privately owned. NP=National Park; NF=National Forest; ACE=Army Corps of Engineers; PP=Provincial Park; SP=State Park; SF=State Forest; R/LP=Regional or Local (Municipal or County) Park. For the "site privacy" to "beauty" columns, we graded them from A to E, with A being excellent and E failing to meet our needs. Those that are marked FP (Favorite Place) are campgrounds that we'll go out of our way to come back to.
An R in the "Comments" column indicates that we felt reservations were needed at the time we were there. Price (posted) per night is indicated by $ to $$$$$. Each $ signifies up to $10. Note that, because we were seniors, we got discounts from these prices in some places.
