As the ferry left Port Angeles we passed several freighters at anchor.

        This sheltered deep-water harbor was "discovered" by the Spanish in 1791 although the Lower Elwha S'Klallam Tribe had been living there for decades in a fishing village.

       The forest and fishing industries have played major roles in the boom and bust economy of Port Angeles, which still has a heavy industrial flavor with a paper mill and significant freighter traffic.
