We walked the trail by the Quatse River overshadowed by mature Sitka Spruce trees. This tree is the world's largest spruce and is prominent in forests along the northwest coast of North America. It needs moist maritime air and summer fogs to maintain humid conditions necessary for growth and is usually found with western hemlock in dense stands where growth rates are among the highest in North America.
