After leaving Salmon Point we drove 150 miles north through Campbell River to the small town of Port Hardy near the north end of Vancouver Island. This is the Coast Guard station at Port Hardy.

        Port Hardy is the hub of commercial salmon fishing on northern Vancouver Island. During the summer season about 1,000 seiners, trollers and gillnetters use the town as home base.
