From Halifax we went along the Bay of Fundy through Digby (clams and scallops for lunch) to the "French Coast." This is a string of villages which were settled in the 1800's by those French who had been expelled in 1755 by the British from the Acadian settlements in the Annapolis Valley to temporary quarters in Quebec, Louisiana, and St. Pierre and Micquelon.

Many of the villages had beautiful cathedrals like this one of St. Bernard's Church, the largest of them, and still in use. The awe-inspiring granite building, seating 1000, was painstakingly constructed by local residents during1910 - 1942.
