From St. Bride's, we followed Placentia Bay, up and down steep hills through each rivermouth hamlet. Finally to to Argentia, once a thriving fishing village whose inhabitants were resettled in 1942 to make way for a US base which eventually closed in 1996.
Today, the old base has been converted to a mosaic of roads and trails, the Backland Trail. We drove part of it and found this outstanding spot for lunch and a nap before heading for the ferry.
