We wandered around the Back Harbour area where we were camped. Many families from some of the forced outport relocations had been resettled here. Not happily we learned.
Outports are small villages on the Newfoundland coast that are only reachable by boat. The government had resettled inhabitants of many outports to the main island because the costs of keeping schools going, providing mail, delivery, and utility systems, etc. was too high.
