Black-bellied Plover
This is our largest plover. We spotted it passing through the Olympic Peninsula on its annual spring migration. Note the white undertail covert (feathers) which distinguishes this species from other plovers with black bellies. Chicks leave the nest a few hours after hatching, already able to feed themselves.
